1. Position on EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD)
Senda Glue Inc. supports circular packaging transitions. Regarding Directive (EU) 2019/904 (SUPD), our position on water-based barrier coatings applied to paper or board is as follows:
These coatings are supplied as water-based synthetic polymer dispersions intended to act as a non-structural functional barrier (grease and moisture resistance), not as the main structural layer of the article.
Implementation and classification vary by member state and by how the finished article is assessed. Customers should confirm how national authorities treat thin barrier layers on fiber substrates for their SKU.
- The applied coat weight is intended to provide barrier function rather than structural rigidity.
- Final article classification (fiber vs. plastic component) depends on total construction, coat weight, and local interpretation.
Our programs are designed to support PE-reduction and fiber-first packaging goals when your structure and audit path qualify—Senda Glue Inc. does not classify customer finished goods.
2. Recyclability & repulpability
End-of-life behavior depends on the full article (inks, windows, adhesives, barriers) and the recycler accepting the stream.
Repulpability intent: Barrier coatings and compatible adhesives are formulated so that, in qualified structures, the dispersion can separate during conventional pulping. Results vary by coat weight, substrate, and mill equipment.
Customers should validate finished packaging using PTS-RH 021/97 (Category II) or the equivalent standard required by their buyer or market before claiming recyclability.
3. Chemical safety (REACH & food contact)
Chemical compliance is grade- and application-specific. The statements below describe our general approach; your nominated grade may carry additional restrictions.
- REACH: We manage substance registration and supply-chain disclosure obligations for products placed on the EU market. SVHC content above 0.1% w/w is addressed per product in safety documentation—confirm on the SDS for the grade you use.
- Food contact: Selected adhesives and coatings are formulated for defined food-contact uses under FDA 21 CFR 175.105 / 176.170 and/or EU Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, as applicable to the nominated grade. Declarations of Compliance (DoC) and migration support are issued per product—not as a site-wide blanket approval.
